Choosing the Password Length
The generator starts with a length of 20 characters and creates an initial result when you open the page with JavaScript enabled. Move the length control to choose between 8 and 128 characters, then select Generate password to use your settings. The result summary shows the length of the password that was actually generated.
Use a length of at least 15 characters where the account permits it, and keep the password unique to that account. The available minimum is a tool setting, not a recommendation that an eight-character password is sufficient for every use. Check the destination's maximum length before generating a value you cannot save there.
Selecting Characters and Avoiding Confusion
You can include lowercase letters, uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols. The generated value includes at least one character from each selected type, with the remaining positions drawn from the combined pool. At least one character type must stay selected.
Exclude similar characters removes 0, O, o, 1, I, l, and the vertical bar from eligible choices. This can make a password easier to read when it must be entered manually. The option reduces the available character pool; it does not make a short password strong by itself.
Match the selected types to the account's actual requirements. If a service prohibits symbols, remove that type and use a suitable longer length rather than generating a value the service will reject. Requirements differ, so no single set of options is guaranteed to be accepted everywhere.
Using a Custom Symbol Set
The optional Custom symbols field replaces the default symbol choices when Symbols is selected. Enter up to 64 symbols. Repeated entries are not given extra weight in the final character pool, and the summary reports the number of unique available characters.
Custom symbols and emoji can behave differently across websites. Some services reject them or count their length differently. The generator checks visible character boundaries and stops if selected symbols combine in a way that changes the requested length, rather than presenting an unexpected result as a completed password.
If excluding similar characters removes every custom choice, the form explains the conflict. Add other choices or change that option. Leaving only one available character produces repetition, and the result warns that the settings do not provide a useful variety of possible passwords.
How Passwords Are Generated
The password is created in your browser using its secure random value generator. Characters are selected from the allowed sets and shuffled before display. If secure randomness is unavailable, the tool stops and reports that no password was generated; it does not fall back to a weaker random source.
The generated value is not sent to the application server. That design keeps generation local to the browser, but it cannot protect a password from a compromised device, a malicious extension, or someone viewing your screen. Use a device and browser you trust.
Understanding the Password Summary
The summary includes the length, character pool size, a theoretical upper bound in bits, and a strength rating. The bit value is based on the pool size and requested length. It is an upper bound for those settings, not a measured cracking time or a guarantee about a particular account.
The strength rating is a separate estimate based on patterns in the password. Select Password Strength Checker beside the generated password for a detailed rating and suggestions. That check does not establish that the password has never appeared in a breach or that using it makes an account secure.
Saving the Password You Intend to Use
Select Copy password for the current result, or Generate another password to replace it with a new value using the current settings. Verify that you saved the intended result in your password manager before leaving the page. Generation is not an account password change.
